Possum Trot XIV Meet Notes
Possum Trot Orienteering Club welcomes you to the 14th annual Possum Trot XIV, held this year in Heartland Presbyterian Center, Parkville, MO on December 5, 2010. We hope you enjoy the event.

- Two "goat" style courses: Possum Trot XIV (about 13 km) and the Short Possum (about 7.5 km).
- The Short Possum course is the first 20 controls of PT XIV.
- There is a Map Exchange at the Start Location for the longer course.
- Both courses have a mass start at 9:00 a.m.
- You may skip 1 control on each map (2 controls for PT XIV and 1 control for the Short Possum).
- 5-hour time limit. If you have not arrived at the Map Exchange by 12:00 noon, you are not on pace to complete PT XIV within the time limit. If you stop your run at the Map Exchange, you will automatically be switched to the Short Possum results list and be considered for awards. You will be given credit on the Possum Trot Standings list for PT XIV based on how many controls have been completed.
- Bib numbers must be worn on front of outer layer of clothing.
- There are 2 refreshment stations at road crossings (marked by the water glass symbol on the map). Organizers will provide Gatorade, water, cookies, etc. Organizers will deliver your special refreshments to each stop. Please mark them clearly and put in the boxes at the start.
- Regular courses: WHITE (1.5 km), YELLOW (1.7 km), ORANGE (3.3 km), and GREEN (4.1 km) courses are also available. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. Last start 10:30 a.m. There is a 3-hour time limit for the regular courses.
- Schedule:
- 8:00 a.m. - Registration, packet pickup
- 8:45 a.m. - Briefing in the shelter. Wear your sweat clothes, there will be time to put your sweats in your car after the briefing.
- 9:00 a.m. - Mass start of Possum Trot XIV and the Short Possum.
- 9:15 a.m. - Registration and starts for W, Y, O, and G courses.
- 10:30 a.m. - Last start for W, Y, O, and Green courses.
- 11:00 a.m. - Hot chili will be available. Show your bib number to get served. PLEASE, CHILI IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE RUN POSSUM TROT XIV OR SHORT POSSUM.
- Soon after 1st 3 finishes - Awards will be presented for PT XIV and Short Possum.
- 2:00 p.m. - Courses close...return to start before 2:00 p.m. Controls will be picked up.
- Map
- Scale - 1:7,500. Contours - 3 meters
- Clues will be printed on the map. Separate clue sheets will be in your packet.
- Terrain
- The hills are steep; aggressive shoes treads are recommended.
- All vegetation mapped as green on the map is slow run.
- Fences and gates
- DO NOT CLIMB OVER GATES ! Please climb under the fences. At this time, we don't know where the horses will be, but please avoid disturbing them. They are gentle and should not pose any problems.
